Here are FIVE reasons why we love Section-B:
1. Section-B was created by Mansour Gadhi and five of his friends (Fahad, Mohammed, Mostafa, Faisal and Baraa) who shared a passion for timeless top-quality burgers. In 2013, they began inviting friends to a weekly Friday get together. “We would try out different recipes and ask everyone for their feedback, and we kept adjusting our product until we reached the final result,” explains Gadhi. “We haven’t deviated since.”
2. The first Section-B restaurant opened in Jeddah in 2015 on Hera Street just behind the Hilton, they’ve gone on to open five more branches in Jeddah, plus expanded to Makkah, Riyadh and Al Khobar. Remarkably, the core principles of Section-B have remained fixed: source the finest ingredients while trying to use as much local produce as possible, make every burger to order, pre-cook nothing, and never re-heat anything.
3. The buns are whole wheat (although you can specify white ones should you prefer), and that’s unusual. They’re beautifully soft though, and doughy, as they’re baked in-house every morning to guarantee freshness. The meat is a smashed US Prime Certified Angus beef mince that’s seasoned with just salt and
pepper on the grill. And their sauces are a well-kept secret (there are seven in all, each mated to a different burger).
4. You can customise a Section-B burger however you want: a single patty or two, and with the usual cheddar cheese, iceberg lettuce, fresh cut tomato slices, pickles and special sauce, or not. Plus add bacon, mushrooms, grilled or caramelized onions, a fried egg, jalapeños, or a grilled pineapple slice. According to Gadhi, the most popular combination is lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles, mushrooms and a fried egg.
5. The Big-B (above) is our favourite but the -B is the original, the -C (a crispy fried chicken burger with spicy mayo) is a solid choice, and the -W (a wagyu with bacon marmalade and truffle sauce) is wonderfully indulgent. In short, the Buffalo is the only one we aren’t enamoured by. We also recommend the hot dog, the -B fries, and the Broc Salad (with cauliflower, bacon, red onion, sunflower seeds, and raisins) to start. Yup, go hungry!
