Saudi National Basma Altwejri must be a formidable multitasker for she is both a programme analyst at the policy design and advocacy department of the King Khalid Foundation as well as a social entrepreneur who founded the ‘Pay It Forward’ social initiative in March 2016. Even so, she has still managed to find the time to author a book in Arabic – ‘From Society, For Society’, which shares some key lessons that she, and 16 other social pioneers, learnt along the way. “As Maya Angelou stated, ‘When you learn, teach, when you get, give’,” she tells us, before revealing that she hopes her book might help people make a positive difference in their communities. “We need to encourage a culture of specialised voluntarism, instead of organisational-based volunteerism, as this will help achieve a greater collective impact,” she asserts.
